Overview:

The Criminal Lawyer Recommendation System is a web-based application that aims to help individuals find appropriate legal representation for criminal cases. By leveraging user-input information such as the type of crime, location, and budget, the system generates a list of recommended criminal lawyers. The application also provides detailed profiles of each recommended lawyer, including their experience, expertise, and client reviews. The project’s value proposition lies in its ability to simplify and streamline the process of finding a suitable criminal lawyer, ultimately saving users time and effort in their search for legal support.

Motivation:

Among our project members, one member has previously volunteered at the Legal Services Foundation, where they often saw many people seeking different types of legal aid. These individuals could be categorized into two groups: (1) those seeking legal consultation, and (2) those applying for aid lawyers. A common issue they faced was uncertainty about whether the consulted or aided lawyer was suitable for their case. However, as the purpose of legal aid is to provide necessary legal assistance, “recommending lawyers” is not an action legally authorized for the foundation. Thus, these individuals often struggled with which lawyer to choose. It was observed that if there was a system to recommend lawyers to the consultees, it would enable them to find a suitable lawyer more quickly and effectively. Moreover, such a system could reduce the manpower resources needed for consultations at the Legal Aid Foundation, creating a win-win situation for both the foundation and the users.

Goal:

We aspire to develop a website system that enables the general public to quickly understand their legal issues and relevant case precedents. Through a lawyer recommendation system, they can swiftly connect with suitable attorneys, thereby reducing the time and financial costs associated with finding a lawyer.
